Our Summer Newsletter
Staff Changes
Since our last newsletter, we have said goodbye to several valued members of the Crossroads team.
May Scott retired in October 2025 after an incredible 30 years of service. May's dedication and commitment over three decades have left a lasting impact, and she is greatly missed.
We also wished Evelyn Williamson a happy retirement in May 2026 after 10 years with Crossroads, while Lesley McConnachie moved on in April after almost two years with the organisation. We thank them all for their contribution and wish them every success and happiness for the future.
Alongside these departures, we have been delighted to welcome a number of new team members. In September 2025, Cath Cunningham, Kirstin McKie, Sandra Muir and Andrea Price joined Crossroads, followed by Jim McSherry in April 2026. Each has quickly become a valued part of the team.
More recently, in August 2026, we welcomed four new members of staff: Vicky Allan, Caroline Bodie, Lesley Irvine and Zoe Robson. We are delighted to have them on board and hope they enjoy a long and rewarding career with Crossroads.
It is always sad to say goodbye to colleagues, but it is equally exciting to welcome new faces who help us continue to deliver the support our service users and carers rely on every day.
Management Committee
There has been a change within our Management Committee, with Gill Groom stepping down from her role as Treasurer after many years of dedicated service.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Gill for her commitment, support and financial guidance over the years. Her contribution to Crossroads has been greatly appreciated.
We are delighted to welcome Stephen Wallace as our new Treasurer. Stephen took up the role at the beginning of the year and is enjoying the opportunity to support the organisation in this important position.
The Management Committee is always keen to welcome new members who can share their skills, experience and enthusiasm to help support the work of Crossroads. If you are interested in getting involved, please apply via our website or contact the office for more information.
π We would love to hear from you.
Fundraising Activities
Our Christmas Fayre in November 2025 and Spring Coffee Morning and Plant Sale in May 2026 were both great successes. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and catch up with people who have supported Crossroads over the years.
At the end of April, four fantastic supporters took part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise funds for Crossroads. Among them was 12-year-old Oliver, who did an amazing job and should be incredibly proud of his achievement. The team had a fantastic day and, as an added bonus, enjoyed some glorious Scottish sunshine!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our events, took part in fundraising activities, or supported us through donations. Your generosity helps us continue providing vital support to carers and families across South Ayrshire.
Our Next Fundraising Event
We're already looking forward to our next fundraising event, the Big Christmas Fayre, which will take place on Saturday 28 November 2026 at Prestwick South Church Hall.
We hope you'll be able to join us for what promises to be another enjoyable day of festive fun, fundraising and community spirit. Whether you're a regular supporter or attending for the first time, we'd love to see you there! πβ¨
Save the date and come along to support Crossroads South Ayrshire.
Carersβ Events
In July this year, we hosted our first informal social evening for carers, which was a new venture for Crossroads. Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get together in a relaxed and friendly setting.
The evening was filled with conversation, light refreshments and plenty of smiles, giving carers the chance to connect, share experiences and simply enjoy some time for themselves.
Given the positive feedback received, we hope to organise similar events in the future, ideally at times that make it easier for even more carers to come along and take part.
Meeting Growing Demand
Referrals from the Social Work Department continue to keep us busy, and we are also seeing an increasing number of people coming directly to Crossroads for support, helping to grow the demand for our services.
We continue to work hard to raise funds, and these donations enable us to provide additional visits and support where there is a particular need, over and above any Social Work funded hours. We have also been fortunate to receive funding from a number of local grant programmes and community funding sources, which helps us extend the support available to carers and families across South Ayrshire.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports our fundraising efforts, as every contribution helps us make a difference to those who need our services most.
This feels a bit more positive and helps connect the fundraising directly to the impact on carers.
Finally...
It's been another busy and rewarding year for Crossroads, and none of it would be possible without the continued support of our carers, families, staff, volunteers, fundraisers, committee members and supporters.
Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us make a difference every day.
We hope you have enjoyed this newsletter and look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.
Take care, and we hope to see many of you at our Big Christmas Fayre on Saturday 28 November 2026!
